Many of the designers we work with are doing their bit to minimise the environmental impact of their businesses and to contribute towards a better world. From using environmentally friendly materials, to supporting the economy and creating job opportunities, designers from not just a shop are making a real difference. Find out about some of their initiatives below…

Just Kim Prints is a sports luxe fashion brand that designs printed neoprene bags and accessories. Founded by Chelsea College of Arts graduate Kim Westwood, the brand supports UK manufacturing and valuable social causes. The bags are made in the UK by ‘Making for Change’, a social enterprise programme set up by London College of Fashion and the Ministry of Justice. A percentage of the profits are given to the Typhoon Yolanda charities that help people who were affected by the tropical cyclone in the Philippines.

Bonito Clocks create unique clocks that are inspired by the calm, graceful and efficient movements of fish. 10% of their sales go to The Blue Marine Foundation, which exists to combat over-fishing and the destruction of biodiversity through the creation of marine reserves and the promotion of sustainable fishing. They have a target of putting 10% of ocean under protection by 2020, with a long-term aim of 30% protected. Each Bonito clock is lovingly designed and hand made in London.

Homeware brand Dust London transform tea waste into elegant objects, inspired by origami forms. Used tea is collected, separated and thoroughly dried before being mixed with a non-toxic binder. Variations include: English breakfast, Rooibos, Peppermint, Chamomile and Black tea – and the different tea blends help to enhance the colour of their vases.

Accessory brand Mind the Cork creates products made with natural cork sourced from Portugal. The products are handmade in the founder’s studio or with the help of small but great manufacturers here in the UK.

TchuTcha is a design-led, ethical brand of socks for babies and kids. The brand reduces its impact on the environment by using organic cotton, recycled tissue paper packaging and eco ink for print materials. If you’re looking for sustainable socks for adults, Empty Cones create socks with patterns inspired by travel and life experiences. The socks come minimally packaged in plastic free materials.

Designer duo Girls Done Good create awesome products that give back. Their products give positive messages that both empower the buyer and inspire and educate women from less advantaged communities by giving them a percentage of the profits. They support charities such as Bloody Good Period, The Maya Centre, Girls’ Network and Coppafeel.

Keep up the good work!
