‘The Confederacy of Spite and Prestige’ by Jamie Genovese. This digitally-manipulated portrait of Napoleon, based on the JACQUES-LOUIS DAVID painting titled “The Emperor Napoleon in His Study at the Tuileries” from 1812 has defaced Napoleon, his nose has been removed. The ghost of what is missing, a confederacy of noses, crowd the background, emphasising his lack.
Jamie Genovese is an MA Contemporary Photography; Practices and Philosophies student at Central Saint Martins graduating this summer.
This print has been produced as part of the SELL-OUT exhibition created by MA students from the Art Programme at Central Saint Martins during the pandemic. All proceeds from the sales go directly to the students to support their final degree show this summer.
