Description
‘egg-pilogue’ 2021 by Kavieng Cheng. Kavieng is a final year postgraduate student at Central Saint Martins, studying MA Fine Art Digital.
The calcium carbonate stored in eggshells is broken down and reabsorbed into the bone. The protective covering changes during incubation: from sturdy to brittle right before the chick gains strength to break free from the shell. The shell later takes on an invisible form. It could be you, Home to your flesh and blood. It could be him, It could be her, It could be the first ever support gifted by them, Holding you up from cradle to grave. And so the cycle repeats. Perhaps one day part of you would transform into a shell – Protecting something so fragile and delicate, yet so close to your heart.
