We are excited to showcase one of our cosiest collaborations yet. Introducing Doudou Huang‘s beautiful blanket ‘Breadworld’. Available in two colourways Doudou’s blanket is inspired by the art of bread making, something that exists in many cultures, including her own. A celebration of humble materials, the natural wool in the blanket represents flour in bread making. The designs speak to not only to our cultural differences but more so what we share in common.
This beautiful product was a result of a live brief collaboration, working with students from London College of Communication on the BA (Hons) Illustration & Visual Media course and knit designer Donna Wilson. Renowned for her distinctive use of colour and pattern, Donna’s designs are infused with her playful sense of humour, her love of nature and a life-long passion for craft and making. We tasked students with designing something that had their own fingerprint but also spoke to that unmistakable Donna Wilson playful nature and colourful design aesthetic.
The project which 70+ students signed up for, offered great insights into what it is to run a profitable product-based business by taking a look behind the curtain at Donna’s buzzy studio in east London. The submissions were beautiful and varied and after an intense day of selections Donna and Lottie chose Doudou’s design. “ We picked this design as we felt it was so original and a sophistication, the simplicity of the design lent itself to the knitting process.”
The blankets are knitted in Donna’s very own micro knit factory in Scotland (knitshopscotland.com), using the finest lambswool, organically sourced and dyed to create the beautiful hues you see here.
