Vincent van Gogh, once said “What is done in love is done well.” This is certainly true in the case of designers – and couple – Joan Ayguade (BA Product Design, CSM, 2008) and Marta Chojnacka. The duo collaborative creatively to produce beautiful – and sustainable – accessories under their brand ‘Materia Rica’.
We met Joan to find out more about their brand and get some ideas for Valentine’s Day gifts…
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]How did you meet?
We met in London just before starting university. We have always shared a love for arts and crafts so we spent hours and hours walking around galleries and museums in the early days.
What is the best relationship advice you’ve ever gotten or would give to someone else?
Do what you love, respect each other and find some personal time to spend by yourself.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row tlg_padding=”pt0 pb0″ tlg_parallax=”not-parallax”][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”8/12″][vc_single_image image=”1883″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row tlg_padding=”pt64 pb64″ tlg_vertical_align=”yes”][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”8/12″][vc_column_text]How did your company come about?
I was running a laser cutting and engraving service business in London after uni, when Marta decided to start making jewellery from her hand drawings – it was then that our collaboration started.
Who or what inspires you?
Nature, travelling and meeting new people. I also get inspired by many artists, designers and inventors; I particularly admire the work of Henri Matisse, Sonia Delaunay, William Morris and Nikola Tesla.
What was the inspiration behind your latest collection?
Sea is our infinite theme. The latest collection was inspired by seaside, marine creatures, moments and locations.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row tlg_padding=”pt0 pb0″ tlg_parallax=”not-parallax”][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”8/12″][vc_single_image image=”1884″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row tlg_padding=”pt64 pb64″ tlg_vertical_align=”yes”][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”8/12″][vc_column_text]In your opinion, what product from not just a shop would make a perfect Valentine’s gift?
Any of the products from our ‘Little Doves’ collection as it was inspired by the concepts of freedom and love.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row tlg_padding=”pt0 pb0″ tlg_parallax=”not-parallax”][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”8/12″][vc_single_image image=”1885″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row tlg_padding=”pt64 pb64″ tlg_vertical_align=”yes”][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”8/12″][vc_column_text]What’s next for your brand?
It feels there’s a never ending list of things and actions to take when you are at early stages with your business! We’ve managed to establish quite a good client base in the UK so we would love to build on that and expand what we do order to keep and grow loyal customers.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row tlg_padding=”pt0 pb0″ tlg_parallax=”not-parallax”][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”8/12″][vc_single_image image=”1886″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
