What attracted you to your craft?
I’ve always been a keen drawer, I remember making illustrated story ‘books’ when I was a
child so it was always a natural progression to end up working as an illustrator. I love
capturing colours and the feel of a place in my work, especially in natural landscapes.
What does your typical day look like?
I don’t have a specific routine in the morning but try and make it to my studio before 10am. It’s about a half hour walk there through my Bristol neighbourhood and I love having that time to think. I spend each day working on whatever freelance projects I have on, as well as packing and posting print orders and working on new print designs. At the weekend I’ll often have an illustration or craft market to go to, selling my prints directly to people.

Does your product have an environmental focus?
All prints are wrapped in biodegradable and compostable film made from annually
renewable corn/potato starch. The bags are fully biodegradable and compostable, which
means that they break down to CO2 and water which can be reused in the eco system to
make new plants. This process can happen in commercial, home composting or landfill but in commercial composting the temperature will be higher and the process is much quicker.
Prints are then backed with 100% recycled grey board to protect them before framing. To
protect the landscapes that feature in my artwork, the aim is to ensure all packaging is
recycled, recyclable or biodegradable.
What is the USP (unique selling point) for your products?
Each artwork is hand drawn by me, in my studio in Bristol.
Where do you find your inspiration for designs?
This really depends! Sometimes the artworks are from books that I’ve illustrated, particularly a series of illustrated travel guide books I’ve worked on (The Inspired Traveller’s Guides). Sometimes they are inspired by places I’ve been or would like to go to or they could be completely imaginary, often inspired by traditional folklore narratives.

Please can you provide a little more info on how your interest in design started and
developed?
I studied illustration at Camberwell College of Arts and have always been interested in trying to capture narratives and the feel of a place in my work. I love all old folklore stories and this also inspires me. Since graduating I’ve always been compelled to draw and so my business selling artworks of my illustrations slowly grew out of this passion.
Do you have any favourite items in the collection?
My favourite in this collection is probably Rewilding. This started out as a freelance
illustration commission for a book called Rewild Your Life (it’s actually the cover!). I love how it turned out, with a winding path disappearing into the sunset so it’s probably my favourite from this collection.
Porthtowan I Print

How would you summarise your collection in a few sentences/words?
Bright and bold illustrated giclée prints by Bristol based illustrator Amy Grimes. Inspired by natural landscapes, folklore and travel; prints feature leafy landscapes and vivid colours.
What are your hopes for the future?
I’d love to continue working on illustrated book projects! I love how I can capture stories and information in illustrations for children’s books specifically, and I’d like to continue selling prints of my work.
