Description
IF I LOVE IT I AINT GUILTY ‘ 2022 by Lilo. Lilo is a final year postgraduate student at Central Saint Martins, studying MA Fine Art.
Artist description of work: “Removing the “I” from the word “guilty” in the sentence “if I love it ain’t guilty” serves as a clever linguistic manoeuvre by the artist. This intentional alteration not only transforms the word itself but also symbolically reflects a shift in perspective. By eliminating the “I,” the artist distances themselves from a sense of personal culpability, suggesting a liberation from societal judgments. This linguistic play becomes a tool for the artist to reclaim their identity and assert that love, in its purest form, should not be burdened by notions of guilt or external expectations. It encapsulates a subtle rebellion against societal norms, allowing the artist to carve out a space where love is free from condemnation.”
