Sonata of the Stars Mobile Art

This “Sonata of the Stars” mobile art by Jill Sung was inspired by M.K. Ciurlionis’ Sonata of the Stars paintings. Jill has created her version of the Sonatas’ painting into a three dimensional space, intrigued by the layering of shapes, the scale of objects, and the connection of art with his music.

The mobile expands the emotion felt when looking at the painting into an atmosphere of the room. Using her favourite key structure of the sonata and rearranging the scale of each shape to find the balance and movement in the 3D space.

Jills’ art mobile ‘Sonata of the Stars‘ was designed as part of a live brief delivered by University of the Arts Careers & Employability team in collaboration with Dulwich Picture Gallery. Students on an industry placement year (diploma in professional studies) at London College of Communication were tasked with designing and producing products inspired by the work of Čiurlionis.

• The mobile was spray painted with colour coherence to each Sonata’ characteristic.
• Assembled by hand to create each unique mobile art.
• Comes packaged with a certificate of authenticity.
