Tips from the Team for warding off the Winter Blues
(5 min. read)
Whilst ‘Blue Monday’ may have originally been coined by the travel industry as a way to garner holiday bookings in a slow month, it’s fair to say that the slow crawl out of winter towards the brighter and warmer days of Spring can take its toll on our mental health.
To help ward off low moods and help maintain a healthy mindset, our team has offered some tips they personally use to keep them going through the darker months.

Coffee Break Ritual
Natalie Stevens (not just a shop Manager)
“I love a great cup of coffee or tea. Having a ‘mini-ritual’, complete with perfect mug, for preparing a hot brew throughout the day allows me to step away from my work and take a few minutes to re-group and takes my focus from work for a bit.”
Carby Meals and Cuddles with my Cat
Clio Delcour-Min (Retail and Student Engagement Coordinator)
“A bowl of pasta or rice is the perfect comfort food to get me through the cold winter evenings and then watching some addictive telly!”

Disco Kitchen Dance
Alice Walker-Mitchell (Marketing and Digital Projects Manager)
“A quick disco dance around my flat is what I do when I need a quick hit of dopamine. It feels great to get some movement going and to literally shake away any feelings of lethargy that start creeping through.”
Exploring New Recipes
Oliver Fairhurst (Stock Manager and Shop Team)
“I love exploring new recipes and ingredients as well as trying to recreate meals I’ve had out and about. It’s like a little treasure hunt finding obscure ingredients, and I love hosting when I try these new recipes.”

Going for Walks with Pommie!
Emese Wu (Marketing and Digital Projects Coordinator)
“Taking my puppy Pommie for her daily walks instantly gets me in a good mood! I love layering up and feeling snug whilst I grab some fresh air and walk around our local park. Even just a few minutes surrounded by greenery makes me feel grounded.”
Making a Plan
Chiara Carnevale (Ecommerce Coordinator)
“As someone with a constantly whirring mind, I always take some time on Sunday evening to sit down with my weekly planner and take stock of the coming week. It calms my mind by getting my tasks written down and allows me to clearly see them and makes it manageable.”

A Daily Swim
Zoe Tynan-Campbell (Lecturer in Professional Development)
“Starting my day with a long swim is vital for me throughout the year! As well as the physical good that comes from exercising, I adore the meditative state of peace that comes with swimming laps in an outdoor lido.”
