Standpoint is a collective of graduates from the BA Photojournalism and Documentary Photography course at London College of Communication. The former students selected a collection of prints, that were sold in not just a shop from May-June 2023. The sales supported their degree show, where the graduates showcased work beyond the traditional limits of documentary image making.

Why standpoint?

“Standpoint gives authority to the subjective. A standpoint can be a strong belief or opinion, but can also act more subtly by empowering individual experience as a source of knowledge (Standpoint Theory). In this way, standpoint respects each of our approaches as image makers, our ways of seeing.” – Standpoint

Standpoint’s philosophy leads with strength in difference. The Graduate Show exhibited a wealth of projects created in-between the binaries of traditional Photojournalism and Documentary Photography. With projects driven by more conceptual thinking, to alternative photographic processes, each body of work was rooted in storytelling. The print sale was an opportunity to engage with and support emerging professional storytellers.

The proceeds

During the sale, all proceeds went towards funding activities that supported Standpoint’s graduate degree show, with the aim to help sustain the collective beyond university. The fundraising sale assisted each image-maker in evolving independently through their professional creative practice.

Now the sale has ended, any money raised from the remaining print sales will be given back to the BA Photojournalism and Documentary Photography course at London College of Communication, who will use the funds to support the next group of students.

Each A3 first edition print was on sale for £50. Any remaining prints from the sale can be found here.

not just a shop is proud to support fundraising initiatives. This is just one of many ways we work with our students and graduates to help grow their creative practice or business. The print sale was an opportunity to engage with and support emerging professional storytellers as they begin their journey beyond University of the Arts London. We hope to bring you more fundraising print sales later in the near future.
